"The positive vibe around the school is amazing and today I am experiencing it myself as my Deputy is out and I have led the big writing with her class. I wish I taught all the time!"
Nik Smith, HT, St Peter's CEP School, Kent
"The Big Writing has had, and continues to have a significant impact upon all of the children. We thank you for your involvement because without it we would have struggled to have made the progress that we have."
Steve Bartlett, HT, Love Lane Primary School, Isle of Wight

Prior to her teaching training Jane was a manager at House of Fraser responsible for staff training and development. She graduated in 1996 in English Language and Literature (B.Ed Hons Class I) and has worked in education for eleven years. Ofsted has evaluated her teaching as excellent and in 1999, she received national recognition for her leadership of Literacy Summer Schools in Birmingham. She is Ofsted trained to the new guidelines and is a specialist in learning and teaching, customising the curriculum and innovative and practical approaches to engaging pupils.
From 2000 to 2006 she was a Literacy Consultant for Northamptonshire LA, during which time she led on the development of ‘Linked Learning Modules’ (a means of establishing meaningful connections between the curriculum and positive learning outcomes in literacy and numeracy). This became a popular training course taken up by 250 schools and 20 LAs and has been cited as ‘good practice’ in numerous Ofsted reports.
Over the years she has supported schools out of ‘categories’ and her advice and support has been much valued by the many teachers she has worked with. Her philosophy is that enabling school improvements should always also enhance pupil attainment. She now works not only as an independent consultant but also in close partnership with other educational organisations. She is a regular education columnist for the Northampton Chronicle and Echo’s ‘Term Time’ supplement.
Colleagues that have attended any of Jane’s courses describe her approach as energetic, vibrant and inspirational. She still teaches to quality assure her work and ensure that she keeps firmly in touch with the practical realities of the classroom. Jane’s current interests include;
Jane is currently exploring the structure of various 'story types' and their unique textual and language features. A range of pupil support strategies and approaches are being developed to help pupils map known stories and then subsequently support them in building their own.
It is essential that schools have the skills to design their own unique customised curriculum. Jane is currently developing a structured framework to enable teachers to design creative units of work that not only integrate common curricular themes but also support pupils in acquiring these new transferable knowledge and skills.
