Pete Halsall - Big Writing Consultant

Pete has sixteen years in primary education and has twice been graded a “very good” teacher in two separate OFSTEDS. He has also, previously, been seconded to a school in special measures by the local authority as learning mentor to support improvement in learning and teaching. Pete has held posts of Literacy Coordinator in three different schools over twelve years and thus has a good knowledge of all areas of Primary Literacy.

In 2004 Pete attended a Big Writing conference and was immediately inspired to introduce the method in his classes. He has experienced great success in raising standards through this approach and is now a highly experienced and committed teacher of the approach. Pete has led professional development courses both within his own school and with other schools in a Learning Network, where he has been one of the driving forces in the implementation of Big Writing.

As a practising teacher still teaching Big Writing, Pete is able to draw on his daily experiences at the chalk face to make his training credible, realistic and entertaining. He is currently teaching part time and committing the rest of his time to the delivery of Big Writing courses and conferences for Andrell Education Limited, which he does with enthusiasm and a strong sense of humour. He is available to run courses, conferences, INSET for schools and to provide support for teachers and teaching assistants.
