Who we are
Big Maths is run by Andrell Education Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 05331897). Our registered office is Premier House, High Street, Crigglestone, Wakefield, WF4 3EB. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), registration number ZA134895.

This notice covers our Andrell Education websites, including the online shop at www.andrelleducation.com, Big Maths Online (app.bigmaths.com) and Big Maths at Home (home.bigmaths.com).
What we collect
- your name;
- your school address, school email address and school phone number;
- your preferences, including when you gave consent;
- when you use our websites and services: your username, password and school PIN, and how you use them, for example links clicked, resources accessed, data entered, the browser or device used, and when you used them;
- when you buy from us: payment details, delivery and invoice address, contact name and contact details, and a record of what you bought;
- when you contact us or join one of our mailing lists: what you type into the form and your email address;
- for Big Maths at Home, the details set out under “Children’s data” below.
How we use it
We use personal information to:
- provide our websites and services and tell you about them;
- meet our legal obligations;
- keep proper business records;
- keep our websites and services secure; and
- check and improve our websites and services.
Some services need your personal information to work. You can choose not to give it, but we will then be unable to provide that service.
We keep information only for as long as we reasonably need it for the purpose we collected it for, or to meet our legal obligations. We will delete your data if you ask us to and we are able to.
Our legal basis
To carry out a contract with you, for example: completing an order, giving you access to a website or service you have bought, providing technical support, and telling you about changes to a service you use.
To meet our legal obligations, for example: keeping financial records and responding to data protection requests.
For our legitimate interests, for example: keeping business records, keeping records of data requests, and keeping our websites and services secure.
With your consent: to send you news and marketing emails, and to use analytics cookies. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
News and marketing emails
We send news and marketing emails, including to our schools mailing list, only to people who have subscribed to receive them. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Cookies
Our websites use cookies. Some are needed for the site to work, for example to keep items in your basket and to keep you logged in. Google Analytics, Mailchimp and our shop’s visit-source cookies are used only if you accept them in our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time on our Cookie Policy page. We collect analytics only to improve our websites and services.
Andrell as the data controller
We are the data controller for the information we collect from you, and we process it on the legal basis set out above. We use other companies to help us provide our services. They process data on our behalf, may not use it for their own purposes, and have contracts in place with us.

Andrell as the data processor
When a school uses Big Maths Online, the school is the data controller for its pupils’ data and we process that data for the school, under our agreement with it. We do not look at this information without the school’s permission.
Children’s data
When a school uses Big Maths Online, the school controls its pupils’ data and we process it for the school. When a family signs up to Big Maths at Home directly, we are the controller of their child’s data. We collect only what the service needs: the child’s first name, year group and scores. Big Maths at Home holds this data in the UK. Payments are handled by Stripe Payments UK Ltd. We never show children advertising and we never sell their data. A parent can ask us to see, correct or delete their child’s data at any time by emailing support@bigmaths.com.
How we protect your information
We build privacy into how we collect, store and process data, and we use security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction on our websites and internal office servers. These include:
- SSL certificates;
- strong passwords;
- encryption of user passwords;
- admin areas that can only be reached from approved IP addresses;
- hardware firewalls;
- access logs; and
- server monitoring.
If there is a data breach involving personal information, we will tell the Information Commissioner’s Office within 72 hours of finding it where the law requires. If the breach puts you at high risk, we will tell you without undue delay.
Where your data is stored
Our Andrell Education websites are hosted by IONOS on servers in the UK. Big Maths Online and the Big Maths at Home database are hosted by Node4 on servers in the UK. Big Maths at Home web pages and images are delivered by Amazon Web Services (including Amazon CloudFront), whose servers can be outside the UK, for example in the United States. Some of our other providers, including Mailchimp and Google, are based in the United States. Where data leaves the UK, we rely on safeguards approved for UK data: the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum. Our internal office servers are in the UK and can only be reached from the office or through a secure virtual private network with the right permissions.
Sharing your personal information
- We use your personal information within Andrell only for the purpose and on the legal basis for which it was collected.
- We use the providers listed above to help us provide our websites and services.
- We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share analytics data with anyone else. We collect analytics only to improve our websites and services.
- We will share your information with government or legal officials if the law requires it.
Other websites
Our websites link to websites run by other people, such as our partners and suppliers. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for how they handle your data. Please read their own privacy policies.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to: ask for a copy of your personal data; have it corrected; have it deleted; ask us to restrict how we use it; object to how we use it; receive it in a format you can take elsewhere; and withdraw your consent at any time where we rely on consent. To use any of these rights, contact us (see “Who we are”). We will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this notice
We may update this notice. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change affects how we use data you have already given us, we will tell you before it takes effect.
