This CD provides you with the Big Maths Addition jingles to play on a CD Player. The CD can be given to parents to play at home or in the car to complement the learning of the Big Maths jingles.
Q: What are Big Maths ‘Learn Its’?
A: They are the number facts that children should know the answer to straight away, without having to count on or think about. We tell the children they must know the answer as well as they know their own name. They should just ‘learn it’!
Q: How many addition Learn Its are there?
A: There are 36 (65 in total, some are repeated for continuity) addition ‘Learn Its’, all are 1 digit add 1 digit questions. They start at 2+2 and finish at 9+9.
Q: Why are they important?
A: These 36 pieces of information provide vital building blocks for a child’s maths education and for the rest of their lives. For example, if you don’t know 3 + 4 = 7 then you don’t know 30 + 40 = 70, and if you don’t know that then you don’t know 30p + 40p = 70p
Q: How many should children learn at any one time?
A: It is important that children aren’t overloaded and try to learn too many at the same time. Learning only 1 or 2, or maybe 3, at a time allows the brain to really focus and helps get the answer ‘wired up’ properly for life. It is a good idea to find out from the school which Learn Its your child is learning next.
Q: How does this CD help?
A: Learning 1 digit + 1 digit Learn Its can be quite dull on their own, especially because to learn them properly requires a lot of repetition. By playing the music, and helping children create their own dance to go with it, the child can have lots of fun while their brain begins to link the music to the words and therefore recall the Learn It!
